Your website is a very important part of your business. It is the shop front - the first place people get a real idea of who you are, what you do and how you can help them. People nowadays are constantly on their phones. You see it all around you, walking down the street, sitting on trains, buses etc. They just can’t seem to put them away! So, imagine they are on their phones and come across your website. What will they see? Will they be able to navigate around your site easily and comfortably on their mobile devices? Or will they have to resize the page, swipe left and right to see the content etc.?

When it comes to mobiles, remember the “rule of thumb”. If your page can’t be navigated with a simple swipe of the thumb up and down, or if your buttons aren’t clickable at thumb level, then it’s time to rethink your page.

Websites should automatically resize between device sizes –whether it be a 27” desktop, 13” laptop, 9” tablet or 5” smartphone screen. It’s not easy, as you can probably imagine! That’s why your web designer should know how to achieve mobile responsiveness and should include it as part of your design package.

Mobile and responsive websites are also important when it comes to search engine rankings. From April 2015 it was one of the prerequisites for improving rank, so if your page still isn’t easily visible on mobile, you’re now being punished by Google.

Check out your website on your mobile device and see it through your potential customer’s eyes. If you get frustrated with it, so will they. If it’s easy to navigate, then you’ve got yourself a mobile responsive website – well done! It’s a relatively easy thing to fix, and it shouldn’t cost you the earth either. Remember – first impressions count, especially in this day and age.
